Question by Brian D: factory refurbished canon cameras?
while looking on ebay for canon cameras i noticed that there are a large amount of factory refurbished DSLR cameras is there some sort of problem with these models, thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Graybeard
You can check Canon’s website for problems with some specific models. I used to work for a huge mailorder company, and we got a very small percentage of products back as not working. Aside from those with shipping damage, we found that the biggest reason for return was that the product was not used properly. For things like phones and cameras, 98% of returns came up to be things like failure to install or charge a battery before using the product. My brother received a digital camera as a gift, and was going to return it because the memory card lasted only a few minutes. Checking it, we found that instead of taking still photos, he’d been waling around shooting high-definition video, mostly of the ground around his feet. So a camera returned and refurbished isn’t necessarily there as a result of a failure of the product. Also keep in mind that CANON is a REALLY BIG company so that it ends up with a fair number of products that are returned for various reasons.

Question by : Is Canon EOS 50d a good camera for a beginner?
I’m 14 and now coming up to starting my GCSE’s (exam thingys). I’ve currently got a Fujifilm point and shoot camera, however I’d like to get into Macro photography. My current camera isn’t capable of this. I’ve realized that a DSLR is the way to go. I’m planning on getting a Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens 60 mm, and I found that the Canon EOS 50d was a good match with the lens.

I am a beginner and I’ve only ever held a DSLR, let alone used one. I am willing to learn about the camera functions, and I’ve researched a lot about the EOS 50d.

I’m asking this because I don’t want to get a camera which I can’t use.

So, is the Canon EOS 50d good for beginners, and me?

Best answer:

Answer by Bazza
Canon make very good cameras indeed. So you can hardly go wrong with the one you have chosen. At your age you will pick up the functions relatively easily. It is far better to acquire a camera that challenges and will do all you wish, rather than dumb down. Good luck and happy snapping.

Question by : What DSLR to get as my first DIGITAL Camera?
I’m thinking of getting a new camera for Photography as we move onto digital in lesson. so ive been looking at DSLR’s and was thinking of getting a Canon D1000 however then my teacher pointed out that it hasn’t got that much of a high ISO so i wouldn’t be able to take very good night shots (which i want to do mainly however i do like other things like landscape and portraits)
So i though i would come to the help of you the price range should be like £600 Max (gonna see if i can get it on ebay for cheaper). I was looking also at the Canon D500/450 or one of the Nikon.

So my main question is what would you guys suggest? like what was your first camera how well did it work for different types of topics. I either want a Nikon or Canon. just dunno what type would be nice if it had video however doesn’t matter to much. maybe 3inch screen etc however that doesnt matter to much either. good max/min aperture, ISO and good JPEG/Raw file quality. so any you could suggest open to any suggestions even if its not Nikon or Canon.

and if any of you have used the Canon 1000D/500D/450D or Nikon 1000D what are they like ?
I think ive made my mind up and i think im gonna go for Canon D500! however is it any good?

Best answer:

Answer by masticina
Go to a store and ask if you can HOLD the cameras.

This part is not what you get when you get it from websites.
Ergonomy and well both Canon and Nikon stand on the top with Sony crawling nicely up to Olympus and Panasonic have their own nice DSLR’s.

I would just say that you need to find a camera befitting YOU. And your budget oh and your teacher talking about ISO, yes night photography is slower on EVERY camera. Going High in the ISO range means sacrificing image quality you actually don’t want to get to high.

I once made a night shot of a big party in the small town I life. A DJ was playing so lots of light and well I put my DSLR on ISO 800 and out of hand made some nice pictures. Yes it was dark and yes due to the bad light not much detail. But I did get the shot and situation being it could be much worse.

So really I think a 450D is a nice solution maybe if you can find second hand a nice 40D.

Answer by fhotoace
The most bang for the buck is the Nikon D40 with AF-S 18-55 mm ED lens @ 0 on Amazon …

You have already picked the best … Nikon and Canon are the leaders in both entry level cameras and the only makers of professional level DSLR’s The D3 and 1Ds Mark III.

Once J D Power has their site up and running, you can take a look and see what others thought of the DSLR’s last year.

Question by Paul R – CLOSED FOR ANSWERS: Canon Rebel T1i / 500D firmware for video?
I am interested in getting a DSLR with video, I already have a Canon EOS camera and many lenses, so it has to be Canon, I can’t afford a 7D or 5D2, however think I would find the 500d a little limiting for the video.

Does anybody know if there is a firewire hack to let you control the frame rate (I need 50i or 25p) and on the fly exposure?
Yep, firmware as stated in the heading, not firewire as mistakenly stated later in the post.

Best answer:

Answer by ERIC
I assume that you’re asking for a “firmware” hack, not a “Firewire” hack. Unfortunately, there is nothing that I have found available. I have a T1i, and would also like to take manual control, because the T1i doesn’t do a very good job auto selecting. I have shot video with a borrowed 5d2, and I often boost the Aperature to 10-12 to increase depth of field, since auto focus isn’t availablewhile shooting video. Another problem with the T1i is the internal microphone. It’s not too bad for picking up “good” sounds (sounds that you want as part of your video,) however unfortunately, it also picks up lots of “bad” sounds. (Sounds from the internal workings of the camera, wind noise, etc…) And unfortunately, there’s no external microphone port on the T1i.

As much as I love the T1i for photographs, I am disapointed in it’s performance as a video camera. Which is a shame, because the camera is capable of capturing truely “stunning” video in the Ideal circumatances. It just doesn’t adapt very well to “real life” shooting conditions.

Question by : What is the best digital compact you can buy right now?
I am looking at the Panasonic TZ10 and the Canon S95. I want a good backup compact camera for when I don’t take my DSLR out with me. I want reasonable iso performance (what can be expected from a compact) good video recording (can handle loud sounds well) a wide aperture and a reasonable zoom. I am wondering if there are any camera you think are much better than the TZ10 or S95. I am not interested in the Canon G12 or Nikon P7000.

Answer by DREW D
i have the sony cyber shot w390 very nice 14.1mp, has a panaramic feature on it you just pan round with the camera left to right and it takes perfect shake free panoramic pic’s, good zoom, wide angle lense, macro video the works and all smaller than a ciggarette packet
i recomend it its the best compact i have to date
