No,

A Nikon.

Of the three Canons you picked, any one of them is a good starter,…

I suggest however that first, you go to a shop, pick up both the Canon and Nikon and feel which one best ergonomically fits. THEN decide on whether or not you want which model of what brand.

Tips?… decide how much you want to spend to INCLUDE a couple of lenses (a camera without one is pretty much a paper weight).

Question by deaksangel: Needing a digital camera however not got the funds for a DSLR….?
Have had a Canon Powershot SX100IS for two years and its just died, need to replace it however don’t have a great deal to spend (preferably around £200 maybe a little more). Take a lot of pictures at live music events so needs to be good in low light. Any answers please?

Mid range / super zooms that you can think off.
These are as you might already be aware of are extended compacts with enhanced features.
There are several recent models that are pretty good in features and performance.

In these, in your range,
Pentax X90 with a good zoom and reasonably good feature list is available.
It boasts a very decent picture quality. And a good low light performance with a fast 2,8 lens.

You might also think of used Canon SX 20 or a Nikon P100.
Out of these two canon and Nikon. In my opinion, Nikon does well in low light scenarios.

If you want a real step up get a t2i on Ebay, it was my first dslr and it’s so much more amazing than the d1000

Right, the rebel series is the US equivalent of the XXXD and XXXXD series of Canon digital SLRs in Europe. Digital Rebel = 300D, Rebel XT = 350D, Rebel XTi = 400D, Rebel XSi = 450D, Rebel XS = 1000D, Rebel T1i = 500D.

The no.1 thing to know about photography is how you use the camera, not what camera you have. Therefore if you use a Canon 1Ds with a 28-300mm f3.5-5.6L in “green box” mode you will get no more than average photographs out. Therefore the most important thing to buy for your DSLR is probably Scott Kelby’s book “The Digital Photography Book” Vol. 1-3.

The most important thing to know about SLRs is that is is a SYSTEM CAMERA. This means that the camera body itself its JUST A BOX. It is your experience that will allow you to select the right equipement to attach to the camera. You need to know which lens you should use, whether you need additional lighting. Is the shot going to be stable enough to shoot by hand? If not then you need a tripod. What about reflections, do you want them or do you need to use a polarising filter? There are an infinite number of possibilities.

I think you need a good understanding of photography before you buy an SLR. But when you do start the all the Canon’s you have mentioned are reasonable. Personally if you can get the 400D, that is the one I’d get since you don’t need the additional functions of the 450D and the 1000D is rather restricting. The Canon 18-55mm kit lens is a reasonable lens to start out with. Perhaps with the 50mm f1.8 will make a decent setup starting out.

Question by MAJIC’: Canon Eos/Rebel XS Name Help?
Are “Canon Eos 1000D” and “Canon Rebel XS” the same camera? I am buying a new DSLR camera and decided between Canon Eos or Nikon D80.
Also, any tips/ advice or personal experiences about either of these cameras?
Thanks

1000D and XS are the same camera. Its called 1000D in Europe.

No personal experience however looking at test results Id go Rebel XS. Performance is similar however the XS has a significant advantage at high ISO. See the comparison here

Best General Purpose Lens For Canon 1000d, Under £200?

Question by : Best General Purpose Lens For Canon 1000d, Under £200?
I’m looking to replace my old kit lens which is an 18-55mm Canon (no IS). I’ve had a DSLR for about 3 months, In which I have bought Sigma 70-300 APO lens. I would preferably like it to be under £200, however if it is a half decent lens, maybe £250-£260. There’s always second-hand from Ebay as well.

Thanks!
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I might search ebay, looking for the lenses you recommended!

Thanks again!

The lens I use most on my 450D is a Canon 28-105 F/3.5-4.5 that I picked up used from Ebay for £90.
If I ever go out with just 1 lens – that is the one. Fantastic results from it.

Not to be confused with the cheap and nasty Canon 28-105mm F/4.0-5.6!!

Q&A: How do you find out how many photos you have ever taken on your DSLR?

Question by : How do you find out how many photos you have ever taken on your DSLR?
I have owned my Canon EOS 400D/XTi DSLR camera for two years now and I am thinking about upgrading to a Canon 40D or 50D however would like to find out how many photos I have taken on it.

I know I have taken a lot over 2,000 because obviously it starts at 0001.jpg and I know I have gone round the loop at least a couple of times.

Is there a way in which I can find out how many photos I have taken on it?

Many thanks to all responses

Opanda iexif 2.3 is free and somewhere on the interwebs. If your camera records the shutter actuations, iexif will tell you how many when you drag a photo into it.

I think your camera might. Mine don’t.

Your camera has a shutter good for at least 100000 trips. If you’ve done, say, 3,000 firings then you’ve used (for want of a better word) about 3% of the camera up.

Continue doing that and your camera will only last for another 32yrs at your rate of firing. Worrying, isn’t it?

No. That’s why I don’t particularly care how many times mine have fired.

Question by : What Camera Should I Buy For My Photography GCSE?
I’m looking to spend £300-400 and it needs to be a DSLR, probably a canon. I’d like it to take video as well! Cheers guys. 10 points to the best answer. Please look around for the lowest price you can. MUST SHIP TO UK OR BE SOLD IN UK!

Canon’s current DSLR line starts with the XS.
Next expensive/feature packed, is the XSi
Next is the T1i
then the T2i

I would recommend purchasing each of these items from bhphotovideo.com.
They are a very well respected Canon reseller, and will have an excellent price.

There may be better prices available, however I would check with resellerratings.com before purchasing from any retailer who has a significantly better price than bhphotovideo.
Chances are they are running scams…

Q&A: Is a Canon 500D a good camera?

Question by Hai: Is a Canon 500D a good camera?
I’ve never had a DSLR before, do you think I should get this one?

Best answer:

Answer by screwdriver
It’s as good as any other, the camera only matters in build quality, ease of use, the functions it has and how easy is it to get at those functions are the primary considerations, go to a dealer and handle them, only you can make the choice. For Image Quality lenses matter more.

Your buying into a system when you buy a DSLR, Canon and Nikon are by far the most expensive systems, Pentax is by far the cheapest.

Are Nikon DSLR users annoyed?

January 4, 2012 by

Question by Paul R: Are Nikon DSLR users annoyed?
We hear all this talk of Nikon leading the way with the D3 and D700 blah blah blah.

I just wonder if the nikon users are annoyed when they put a DX lens on their nice new bodies and only get 5MP?

Do they ever wish they had bought canon instead? (Highest res DSLR with the EOS 1Ds Mk3, highest burst rate with the EOS 1D mk3? a 15MP camera with either digital or EF lenses for less than the D700?)

Don’t think I hadn’t noticed that photoace had ignored the 10fps 100f depth of the EOS 1D Mk3.
Don’t matter much. I only asked so to wind up Nikon afficianados who were being very smug over the last while, getting the headlines for catching up at last.
Nothing against Nikon as they make nice cameras. Just not as good as Canons.
And for the person who made the point about the F mount not changing for 50 years…
thats why canon have the faster better Af system and have had for the last 20 years. AND a 50 yo lens is going to be so badly coated at source and by wear and tear since that the kindest thing to do would be use it as a paper weight.
Show me somebody who is using a 50yo lens on a d700 or D3 and i’ll show you somebody who is as well using a DX lens with clingfilm over the front element.

As per the EFs comments: I agree. But even even canon EFs users stil lget up to 15MP, ha ha ha.

The Canon pro users who only ever bought EF anyway get up to 22MP.

Canon wins.
