Question by Anni: What to expect from a Canon EOS 1000D?
I am planing on buying the Canon EOS 1000D EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 (non IS) Lens Kit as my first DSLR camera, and I would like to know if it is a good DSLR. Does it have all the features you would expect from a DSLR?

Please Help

PLEASE DON’T!!!
Feel the construction of the body on the 1000D … They have tried to cut corners on the costs. (Which is unacceptable on a £400 camera)
The Nikon 3000D beats it HANDS DOWN!!!!
As well as a better made camera the Nikon 3000D has a “Guide mode” for new DSLR camera uses.
Oh it also has more auto-focus points than the Canon as well.
I am not anti-Canon cameras (The 450D would be an excellent first DSLR)
It seems Canon have sold themselves short with the 1000D
Don’t you do the same.
Option 1) Pay the extra for a 450D Canon
Option 2) Buy a Nikon 3000D
Hope this helps

Question by Moe v: What else do I need with Canon t2i to achieve cinematic look on a cheap budget? Please share your knowledge.?
I’m buying a Canon t2i dslr, and want to use it to shoot short films. I’m really tight with money so wanted to ask you what else do I need besides the camera and the 18-55mm lense it comes with to shoot a short film with a cinematic look? What other lenses do you suggest I buy? Please tell me everything I might need to achieve that so I can calculate how much do i need to spend. Do i need a light meter as well? I would really appreciate your knowledge and help. Cheers

Proper use of post production editing software is just as important as the camera when it comes to great looking video.

Why would I want to buy a ‘wide angle lens’ for my DSLR?

Question by Jon: Why would I want to buy a ‘wide angle lens’ for my DSLR?
I’ve been getting to grips with my new Canon 550d DSLR and have been reading books etc on what to buy and do, however I do not understand why I would want to buy a wide angle lens, when the stock lens that comes with it (18-55mm) would cover the same mm? If I set my lens to 20mm, will this give the same effect as buying a Canon 20mm wide angle lens? Or is there another factor that affects perspective? (I’m presuming there is, other wise who would bother!) Cheers
The reason I would WANT to buy one would be to achieve a ‘further away’ perspective when shooting landscapes with vast blue sky and clouds, thanks for everyones input I now understand!

Because 20mm is not really wide. You need to get into the teens to enter wide angle. And the Canon 10-22mm is an UWA (ultra wide angle) lens. Take your camera to the camera shop, put on a wide angle lens like the 10-22 and see the difference it makes for landscape, scenery or even interior shots and groups of people. It’s a great party lens for snapping a room full of people!

Changing from film to digital?

Question by DaveyMcB: Changing from film to digital?
Hi there, I am quite new to photography and have just bought my first film SLR- a Canon EOS 500N. I am slowly getting the hang of things however have a question about advancing to Digital when the time comes.

People have told me a digital Canon EOS would be the way to go as my lenses would be interchangeable; my question is, would the lenses from my film SLR fit any Canon DSLR, or only specific variations?

Thanks!

PS, if I decided against a Canon for whatever reason, what would be another brand to try out- a friend recommended Pentax for a cheap, sturdy SLR for a serious beginner…true?

Thanks!

I can only speak for myself as a pro.

I purchased a digital camera body that would compliment the ten or so lenses I already had. I can’t imagine switching camers systems and not be able to use my existing lenses. Frankly I could not afford it.

The Pentax is NOT one of the cameras the pros use.

We were all beginners once. Look at Nikon and Canon for the sturdiest camera bodies (you have seen them on the sidelines at football games getting whacked and they still work fine)

Digital Camera – DSLR help – What is the…?

Question by None: Digital Camera – DSLR help – What is the…?
I am trying to find a good DSLR digital camera to buy. I want one that isnt too expensive (about 300 pounds max – maybe a bit more) also one that has good zoom and changeable lenses. Also high resolution and megapixels (at least 7MP). Can someone reccomend a good camera (please give the make and model) I think nikon, pentax, canon and sony are makes I would go for because they look the best quality. I also want it easy to get the photos onto a computer quickly and easily.

I have been watching that Paparazzi program on tv and want something like the cameras they use that have good quality images and that are more professional cameras that can take loads of photos quickly because I want to improve my photography.

Please help
I have just looked at the Canon EOS 400D which looks good however slightly expensive. Does someone know if that is any good??

I personally think that the Nikon D40 is a fantastic camera. I have owned a Canon Digital Rebel and a Rebel XT.
I think the Nikon is a finer camera with unbelievable support from Nikon!
I would check out dpreview.com as they have reviewed most DSLR’s and they are fairly neutral in their reviews!
Hope this helps!

If I you take a picture with a dslr camera and you take one with a point and shoot camera of the same thing,?

Question by Dave: If I you take a picture with a dslr camera and you take one with a point and shoot camera of the same thing,?
will you notice a significant difference in image quality?

Say for example you take a picture of a sunset or a flower with a DSLR Canon camera and you take the same picture with a Sony W50 point and shoot camera, will the image quality be better

I need general info on this
Mystic Whyspers- That does make a lot of sense. Because I have a Sony W50 that I bought for £199 2 years ago and some pics look like I made with a disposable £5 camera.

But how would you do better with a point and shoot since when it is very basic (I mean a dslr gives you more control and i guess the tools to make a better pic- ie manual controls different lenses)

Id really like to learn how to make a better picture.
How do I learn how to take better pictures with a point and shoot camera

Sony A200

Olympus E510

Thanks in advance for your help!
Thanks for your help!

My current SLR is one I inherited from my dad. It’s a Sigma SA300 and even though it’s a few years old, it’s been a good camera.

Does someone know how I can find out if my lenses will fit any of the DSLR’s I’ve mentioned?

Definately going to go to the shop and try out. Really good idea about taking an SD card in too!

Thanks again!
