Question by Evilcowstare: Suggestions on DSLR Lens other then Canon EF-S 55-250mm?
Hi I have been looking at a lens for my canon 450d, Im looking for a zoom lens and it seems the next obvious one up would be the Canon EF-S 55-250mm which you can get for around £150 new, are there any others that I should be looking at for a similar or around up to £250 mark? would they be worth the extra money? I ideally want Image Stabaliser

Thank You !!

I must answer this question 50 times a week. Yes, it’s a good camera, they are all good cameras, the important thing is to get a camera and get shooting!

To become a better photographer.

Take lots of pictures, print your pictures and display them side by side, don’t be afraid to experiment, show only your best work to others (and buy a big garbage can for the rest).

I wasted a lot of time and money chasing the “perfect” camera, lens, etc when I was younger (and still do to be honest) however its far better when starting out to work with a minimum kit and concentrate on the intangibles, you need to train your eye before you should think of buying more stuff.

A 35mm SLR would be your best bet.

Whatever camera you use, you will not be using it on auto anyway.

Canon 350D (Digital Rebel XT) DSLR. What Do You Think?

Question by Tim D: Canon 350D (Digital Rebel XT) DSLR. What Do You Think?
I currently have a Canon powershot S70 however would like to try and move up to a DSLR.
I’m on a tight budget so thought looking at 2nd hand could be worthwhile.
My local camera shop has a Canon 350D for sale at £200. Reasonable condition, 12 month warranty. Comes with all the bits in the box etc.
I’ve heard good things about the Digital Rebel series; reviews were good when it came out in 2006.

What do you think? Would the 350D be a good buy for a first DSLR?

Answer by Hondo
If you think that you will eventually be moving up to a camera in the semi-pro range, then the cheapest thing that allows you shoot in full manual mode is what you want…and that XT is a great idea. Many people spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on their first entry level DSLR camera, and then a couple years later spend hundreds and hundreds to upgrade. If you are really interested in photography, then you first DSLR camera should be nothing more than a tool to help you learn the relationship between ISO, shutter speed, and aperture…and ANY DSLR will work for that!

IF you have it or have experience of using it; is it any good? I am considering buying it and I need to make sure it will be worth my money at £489.99 (from Currys).

Generally, the reviews of any camera will be based upon the users skill level, so not a good objective resource.

Basically ALL dSLR cameras have the ability to create professional images. How well yours turn out is going to be the result of your technical skills using such a camera and your compositional skills when choosing the lens to use and filling the cameras frame with the image.

Learning how to create perfectly exposed images is going to require a lot of time and experience on your part.

Learning how to compose amazing images will take some study and practice.

You can start learning composition here.

Good tripod for a DSLR Canon 350D?

Question by Poppi: Good tripod for a DSLR Canon 350D?
I have been doing some research and came across some tripods that look nice at Jessops, however just a bit unsure as the max height is 139cm. Is that too limiting, i mean, if i want to take pictures of people standin up? (I’m learning how to use my camera and don’t want to spend too much money).
This is it :

Look for a tripod 150+ cm ( 5 feet+) height without extending the center column which is the right size for group photography. This depends on your height too. Check out various tripods on Jessops website first in your price range and preferences and go to the Jessops in person and try out or feel them. The type of tripod of you buy depends on the weight of the camera.

Good Luck
