The best tripod has always been the one that satisfies these criteria (starting with the most important):

1) Can support the weight of your camera body and heaviest lens, this probably won’t be more than 5kg

2) One you can afford

3) One you can carry with you

Never skimp on a tripod, it’s worth paying for the extra security. Manfrotto, Slik and Gitzo are the most dependable. Don’t bother with carbon fibre unless you plan to go hiking, steel and aluminium are generally more stable.

I can’t say an exact model because you haven’t named a price, however expect to spend £80-200 for a good tripod.

Question by : Which Canon DSLR is best?
I’d like a DSLR for myself. I have a budget of up to £420 to work with though.

I’ve seen a Canon EOS 400D and a Canon E0S 450D… although which one is best out of the two? I’m still undecided.

Or are there any other better Canon DSLRs in my price range?

Question by boredboris2000: Konica Minolta (Sony Alpha) Lenses to fit Canon DSLR?
I just wondered if there was a Lens adaptor that would convert a Canon 7D Camera so it could use Konica Minolta lenses (Sony Alpha) lenses?

I’ve checked on Ebay, however I’m not exactly sure what I should be searching for!

Thanks to someone that can help!

You need to contact this guy, his name is Eddie.

If he can’t custom build you one then it probably can’t be done.

Don’t buy anything cheap you see online – Eddie told me he gets cameras back for repair that have broken their mirrors using cheap adapters.

Best? That means L-series telephoto and super telephoto primes.

Canon 300mm f4L IS USM
Canon 300mm f2.8L IS USM
Canon 400mm f2.8L IS USM
Canon 600mm f4L IS USM
Canon 800mm f5.6L IS USM
Canon 1200mm f5.6L USM
Canon EF extender 1.4x
Canon EF extender 2x

These are the gold standard Canon lens, fast AF speed, fluorite and UD elements and image stabilisation essential for long telephoto lenses. The best comes at a price, the 300mm f4L IS is the cheapest of the bunch and used by many amateurs as well as pros is just over £1,000, and the 800mm f5.6L coming in at over £10,000.

The 1200mm is a special lens, there aren’t many around the world, and last time I saw one for sale it was priced at 0,000.

You asked for the best. If you want the best at a price that’s a totally different matter. Canon’s 70-200mm f4L USM + Canon EF 1.4x extender will probably work reasonably well, for around £700. Anything less and you’re starting to enter consumer territory, not something that can be considered anywhere near “best”.

You could also consider Sigma’s supertele primes, the 300mm f2.8 EX is a much cheaper option to the Canon one.

Choosing a lens for Canon DSLR?

Question by T G: Choosing a lens for Canon DSLR?
I have just bought a Canon DSLR and am finding it impossible to choose a decent, affordable (non ‘L’) zoom lens for it. Whichever lens I choose, someone always seems to give it a bad review for some reason or other. How have others decided?

Best answer:

Answer by Dr. Sam
Well, if you are not going to get an “L” lens, stop reading reviews! But seriously… Some of my favorite pictures were made using 0 lenses. While you can test for chromatic aberations and linear distortion and resolution, you can’t test for what you are going to DO with the lens. They have to measure SOMETHING when they do tests, however they can’t measure your talent. Buy the lens that you can afford and get busy making pictures.

The Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM (28-135 equiv.) (April 2007-5) is a good “walk around” lens at a good price.

I really like my Nikon 17-55 and Canon makes a comparable lens, the Canon Zoom Super Wide Angle EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Autofocus Lens. It’s not an “L” lens, however it seems popular.

Answer by Diana K
Most of the time, no. But when they do, you do have a crop factor as well, and obviously, you will have to manually focus the lens. But, to check and be sure that the lenses are interchangeable, find the lens code and check it on the canon website.

Question by Omar H: Whats the best lens ican get for £50 for a Canon 450D DSLR?
I guess i can stretch to say £70 however i don’t have much money this time of year cos of christmas :( im in to Macro photography at the moment i have a Canon 18mm – 55mm lens need a new one i think

Best answer:

Answer by endangeredsaviour
If £50 is close to 0 USD… I would wait and save more money. I am guessing that after the exchange, camera equipment is more expensive in the UK than in North America.

£50 is about the cost of the kit lens that your camera came with… and there are not after market lenses worth upgrading to that will cost you less than double that amount (about 0 USD) brand new. Most lenses average over 0 USD each.

You may want to look for used lenses or 3rd party lenses from Sigma, Tamron, and Tokina.

For macro photography, you are going to want a Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 USM.

Search on Flickr for specific Canon lenses to see what people are shooting with their lenses.

Also, for macro photography, you will need a tripod.

Good luck!
